Don't Make the Occupation Permanent

Dear [[First_Name]],

We need your moral voice today, to ask your senators to support Senate Resolution 234, which affirms America’s commitment to a two-state solution and explicitly condemns annexation.

In his April election campaign, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made an unprecedented pledge to begin annexing West Bank settlements. Such a step would violate international law and further codify the denial of basic human rights to the millions of Palestinians living under Israeli military rule.

Instead of condemning this dangerous and unlawful action, the Trump administration is encouraging it, with Ambassador David Friedman last week telling the New York Times that the Israeli government had the “right” to annex parts of the West Bank.

Join T’ruah and other progressive, pro-Israel American Jews by asking your senators to take a stand against annexation today.

In the West Bank, there are two sets of laws: one for settlers, who live under Israeli civil law, and one for Palestinians living under military occupation. The Torah teaches us this is immoral when it says in Leviticus 24:22: "You shall have one law for Jews and non-Jews alike."

Working toward a two-state solution and an end to occupation is being pro-Israel. A change in decades of U.S. policy threatens the human rights of Palestinians and the very future of Israel. Annexing territory without granting equal rights to the people living there is a violation of international law and morally wrong.

The new Senate resolution, introduced by Senator Jeff Merkley (OR) and co-sponsored by Elizabeth Warren (MA), Bernie Sanders (VT), Diane Feinstein (CA), Dick Durbin (IL), Tammy Duckworth (IL), Tammy Baldwin (WI) and Tom Udall (NM), will send a powerful message to Trump and Netanyahu.

Help us push back against the far-right agenda in the US and Israel.

Join T'ruah and our friends from Ameinu, Americans for Peace Now, J Street, National Council of Jewish Women, New Israel Fund, Partners for Progressive Israel and tell your senators to support S. Res. 234 today.

Thank you for your partnership,

Rabbi Jill Jacobs
Executive Director
